Good lens, good performance - many uses
This was the first macro (micro) lens I bought; I also have the 105mm now too which is definitely my preferred lens but I have to say I'm glad I have this one too. The performance is excellent and it is lighter and easier to hold than the 105mm which can be a bit heavy if you're small. It produces good close-ups and can be used with filters to get closer if necessary. It makes a super portrait lens too so if you want something that can be used for close-ups and people then this is one to consider.I'm using this with the D50 and the output from it is very good indeed.

This corrects vision so that you can work with glasses off but still see sharply through the viewfinder.
Note when buying - buy the one closest to the actual number on your script - don't allow for the precorrection of -1 in the viewfinder. So, my script is -3.4, so I bought a -3 and then use the D80's viewfinder adjustment to correct more accurately.
You also can't refit the rubber eyecup on top of this - really doesn't matter, but don't bother spending ages trying to make it fit like I did!

Ahh - I can see again!
If you've got the level of short-sightedness I have, you'll know that manual focusing becomes tricky - you either have your glasses on and can't see the composition properly, or off and can't see the focus properly.This corrects vision so that you can work with glasses off but still see sharply through the viewfinder.

expensive for what it is
Although it is generally a fairly well-made piece of equipment, its main fault is that the inner sliding sleeve is a bit too loose, thus causing lateral movement when adjusting its focal length. Although there is no facility for copying negatives, it would be fairly easy to make a suitable carrier for them, providing that it is robust enough to hold the usual 5 or 6 negatives in one strip without distorting or sagging. Had the designers given it sufficient thought, they should have made it at least 20mm longer, thus avoiding the expense of extension rings.80

Pricey but effective
I bought this particular filter mainly because it was by Nikon, the same as my Camera. The brand name makes it pretty expensive but it really does make a difference when rotated appropriately unlike a cheap filter i bought abroad on holiday once.
