Tack Sharp!!

I am a semi-pro photographer and have had this lens for a few months. I am an event and sports photographer and have used this lens for photographing about ten games at my local professional football club. The pictures have to be sharp and my cameras and lens have to be able to deal with anything the professional game can throw at it, ie low light, changes in light, fast shutter speeds and sharp pictures which need to be uploaed to the football clubs website within minutes of the half-time and the end of the game. If the lens wasn't tack sharp then the pictures just could not be used. This lens delivers all what is needed from it and covers all requirements.

The lens is well balanced and well proportioned. It feels great to hold on the camera body and the VR (vibration reduction) is in my opinion, the best I have used. Its not a cheap lens but if you want professional results you need to spend this type of money.

Thats two great reviews!! If you need more then Digital Photographer magazine had a shoot off against a number of other lenses, including independants and Canon and it won the shoot off. Save up and buy it, you won't regret it!

A really versatile Digital Camera

I've had this camera for about 3 weeks and have to say it's absolutely fabulous. The main feature that attracted me to it is the 8.3x optical zoom lens. This gives a zoom equivalent to a 300mm lens in a 35mm camera. I used to use a Nikon F65 with a separate 300mm zoom lens. Now, thanks to the 4800 I can still take some great long distance shots but with a camera small and light enough to fit in my pocket. The camera also has great features like scene assist and movie mode, and comes with Nikon photo software. The instruction book is very thorough, but the camera is easy enough to operate so you'll be taking great photos before you've read it.

25yrs and going strong

I bought this rubber eveycup with my FM over a quarter of a century ago. It drastically improves the contrast of the viewfinder. Its very comfortable. Its very cheap. It obviously lasts forever.

substitute battery for Nikon D2x,by Uniross

I have been using this battery in my D2x for over a year now,alternating
it with the cams own battery and over a full days shooting, 400-500 clicks
usually runs it down to half-full,whatever the temperature,leaving the other battery in the bag for the following days use.
A substitute battery at 40 quid is not cheap,but it works just fine.

It does what it says on the box!

The battery holder holds eight AA batteries which make the F5 work - I can’t say fairer than that!
Unfortunately Amazon can’t supply these. I ordered two back in early Summer (May?) and now, on the 9th November, they tell me they can’t supply them! Pathetic...

unnecessary unless doing big volume and then not robust enough

if you're just scanning a handful of films you're better off winding the neg out of the aps cartridge with a biro and then scanning it as you would 35mm.
you will have to mask it down with photoshop if you don't like the look of the whole film but prints including this as a border can look great in my opinion.
save your dough. this is a piece of expensive plastic.

The best lens ever produced by Nikon

Firstly. Amazon service. Just faultless and so easy. New stock means NEW.The prices. Very competative. Not always the cheapest but you know it will be right (Not some shady import or ex dealer demo).
The Nikkor 85mm 1.4. Just nothing sharper. Has excellent contrast, and for bokeh (nice out of focus backgrounds) there is nothing to touch it. Costs a bit more than the 2.8 but it is crafted and will last a lifetime. Buy one!! Does full justice to the Nikon D300.
